CD-Player with Pitch — Are you Crazy?

I said it before and finally did it. I bought the Gemini CDJ-20.

Of course everybody is calling me names and looking at me like I lost my mind, but actually, I kinda like the small beast.

Advantages: It gives me access to productions from our dear friend MZR during mixing and some old records I only own on CD also are available now in da mix.

Disadvantages: pitch is 16% over a very small distance. And it is in steps of 0.1% - not analogue, so you keep fiddling a bit with pitch bend to compensate for this.

In general I am quite satisfied that for a small 250 Euro’s I have this thing now.

Good Ol’ Mellow Mix

Remember when you had Mellow vs. The Rest Of The World? Today, Acieed Ed presents a nice Mellow Mix with tracks from Strictly Rhythm, Dimitri, Remy, Goodmen, Tons of Tones etc.

The mix is called Unnaturel Elements ;-) There is a small cut in the middle (recorded from tape).

Enjoy!

Link can expire after a week or two. Need RealPlayer. If you hate the bloated RealOne, check out the Old RealPlayer.

Support These Fellows

Er zijn weinig goede omroepen in het publieke bestel, dunkt me. Een van de weinige van die clubs die me aanstaat omdat ze:

  • Relaxte programma’s maken
  • Zich niet confirmeren
  • Geen bullshit over anderen uitkramen

    is BNN.

EEG used as RC (Science Thursday)

The notoriously vague EEG patterns are being used in an experiment to control a robot’s movement, promising wheelchair driving in the future.

This can of course be extrapolated and you can imagine easily other vehicles (cars) being controlled by this. Then you can also easily create a system that notices if people are drowsy or sleeping and give a waring signal.

How about controlling your 1200’s??? :-)
Anyway, until now it is all very limited, see the New Scientist article about it.

Radio Freestate will feature a mix by Acieed Ed on 26 July. This stuff has been arranged by CourtHouse

So, next Satrday, at around 20-22 hours, tune into Radio Miranda through your local cable (Alkmaar region) or through: Stream 1 or Stream 2.

Of course the mix will contain lots of old-school goodies.

    High Quality Electronic Music

One of the labels you should keep an eye on is: Plant Records. It is run by Dennis aka Il Disco and releases some weird, but good music. You can listen to tracks and excerpts on the website.

Funnily enough I was linked to it through Arne Weinberg who uses the handle Infiltrator on Discogs… Suspicious :-)
BTW Arne’s website doesn’t work on a Mac.

This year Belgiums real leading techno event will be held for the period of 11 days (07/18-07/28). And 10 doesn’t stand for the amount of nights anymore. They added an extra one!!
The name 10 days off, with a double F makes clear it’s not only techno that will be spinned. All streams of the electonical music scene will be present.
A dutch crowd will again be present!!

    Science Thursday again: No-Fly Zones

Surrounding city centres and likely terrorist targets with “soft walls” will make it impossible for hijacked planes to get anywhere near them. So say the inventors of an avionics system that creates no-fly zones that pilots cannot breach.

Since the terrorist attacks on 11 September 2001, anti-aircraft missile batteries have been installed to protect buildings in Washington DC and other US cities.

Read more about an alternative way to stop planes entering certain zones.

Scary thing about it is what to do if a pilot needs to make a certain move to be able to make a safe emergency-landing… That move might become impossible with such a system.
